Kansas man detained in Missouri, awaits extradition for human trafficking charges

A man from Kansas who was accused of human trafficking has been located and apprehended in Kansas City, Missouri. He is currently in custody in Kansas City, awaiting extradition.

Yahir Van Vollenhoven, a 25-year-old resident of Overland Park, has been apprehended on Tuesday, Jan. 21, in Jackson County, Missouri. According to the Circuit Court records, he is facing charges related to human trafficking in Kansas.

According to court documents, Van Vollenhoven has filed a waiver of extradition on Tuesday in order to return to Douglas County, Kansas. The purpose of this return is to face a charge of human trafficking.

In January 2022, the Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department received a notification about a runaway juvenile from another city who might have been in the area. Law enforcement officials promptly located the child and ensured their safety.

According to investigators, it has been discovered that Van Vollenhoven allegedly purchased a plane ticket for the child, who flew into the area. There are also allegations of a sexual nature, but no additional details have been disclosed as the investigation is still ongoing.

Van Vollenhoven is currently in custody at Jackson County without the possibility of bail, as per the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. No additional details have been disclosed at this time.
