An Indiana man, who had fled to Canada to evade serving a prison sentence for storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, now faces additional charges as filed by federal prosecutors.
According to News 8, Antony Vo is facing charges of failure to surrender, as stated in court documents.
Last Monday, the Canada Border Services Agency arrested Vo for “alleged illegal entry into the country.” The CBSA claims there is no record of Vo entering the nation “at an official port of entry.”
In April, a federal judge sentenced Vo to nine months for his involvement in the Capitol riots and instructed him to surrender to prison on June 14. However, instead of complying with the order, Vo evaded authorities and fled to Canada, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Vo was arrested by the Canada Border Services Agency last Monday on suspicion of illegally entering the country. According to the CBSA, there is no official record of Vo entering the country through a designated port of entry.
Vo, who is currently seeking political asylum in Canada with the assistance of a Saskatchewan-based immigration attorney, has made it clear that he has no plans to surrender himself for his prison sentence. In fact, he firmly believes that President-elect Donald Trump will grant a pardon to all defendants involved in the events of January 6th once he assumes office. Vo shared this information with I-Team 8 during their conversation.
On Wednesday, Vo went through an asylum hearing and is currently still in detention.
According to the attorney overseeing Vo’s refugee claim, the CBSA is legally required to deport any foreign nationals who are deemed inadmissible to Canada. If Vo is found to be inadmissible, it is highly probable that he will be sent back to the United States, where there is still an outstanding federal warrant for his arrest.
In an interview with News 8’s Tim Spears, Vo expresses his belief that the events of January 6, 2021, were orchestrated by the government as part of a conspiracy. Furthermore, he demands the imprisonment of the members of the Jan. 6 Committee and accuses the federal judge handling his case, along with others, of committing treason.
“The people that participated in (Jan. 6) by and large, were for the democratic process of just ensuring the election was right, and the people who basically prevented us from doing so are, in my opinion, the ones that are wanting to impede the democratic process,” Vo told Spears.
Vo maintains a positive outlook on the asylum process and expresses his aspirations to pursue a career in politics. Spears reveals that Vo has submitted applications to both the Trump transition team and the Department of Government Efficiency.
