A man accused of seriously injuring a southern Indiana deputy in a shooting was fatally shot by police on Saturday, capping a two-day search.
Indiana State Police found Austin Schepers, 33, in a house on the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky.
The specifics of the incident between Schepers and law enforcement are unclear; however, state police verified that Schepers was fatally shot by cops on the scene.
Schepers allegedly shot Deputy Sheriff Zac Andry at the intersection of US 150 and State Road 56 shortly after midnight.
According to Indiana State Police, Andry was inspecting a partially submerged Pontiac Grand Prix and conversing with the driver, Schepers, when Schepers shot him multiple times, including in the head.
Schepers and a female passenger then fled the scene in their Pontiac.
Andry was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. Authorities have reported that he is currently in critical but stable condition.
The authorities apprehended the passenger who was traveling with Schepers in the vicinity of Orangeville at approximately 8 a.m. on Friday.
On Saturday, the police released more pictures of Schepers. They described him as armed and dangerous and suspected him to be in the New Albany, Ind. area within Floyd County and the Kentuckiana region.
