I-25 Collision Leads to Death of 81-Year-Old, Investigation Continues

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim involved in a tragic chain of crashes on Wednesday, November 27. According to Colorado State Patrol (CSP), troopers responded to a two-vehicle collision on northbound I-25 at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The crash involved a Jeep and a Subaru Outback. After the initial impact, both drivers moved their vehicles to the left shoulder and stepped out to exchange information.

Shortly after, a pickup truck sped into the scene, striking both cars. The impact caused the Subaru to hit one of the drivers, who was then thrown into the southbound lanes of I-25 and tragically run over by passing traffic.

The driver, identified as 81-year-old James Spencer, was pronounced dead at the scene. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity on Monday, December 2.

I-25 was closed for several hours while emergency crews worked to clear the wreckage. As of now, no charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing, CSP confirmed to FOX21.
