Houston residents who enjoyed the cool autumn weather during Thanksgiving may need to prepare for a change in conditions as we enter the first week of December. The National Weather Service forecasts partly sunny skies for today, with temperatures reaching around 66 degrees and light northeastern winds. Monday’s weather is expected to follow a similar pattern, with sunny skies and similar highs.
However, the calm weather could be disrupted by a coastal low forming off the South Texas coast. According to KHOU 11, weather models indicate that rain chances will increase in southeast Texas by mid-week. The system is expected to move northward toward Houston, with rain starting as early as Tuesday and intensifying through Wednesday and Thursday. This could result in total rainfall accumulations of up to one inch, with some areas receiving up to two inches.
The incoming rain could create hazardous conditions, including ponding on roads and slick surfaces. As the week progresses, Houstonians should be aware of heavier showers and storms expected for Wednesday and Thursday, which may increase the risk of flooding and complicate travel, as noted by KHOU 11.
Morning temperatures will remain cool, hovering in the 40s and 50s, offering some relief before afternoon highs climb into the 70s. Although the rain may pose challenges, the warmer temperatures will provide a mild backdrop to the wetter conditions expected to last through the weekend.
