Houston grieves over the passing of their longest-serving female police officer

Funeral services are being held today for Senior Police Officer Calamity “C.J.” Elliott Barnes, who is believed to hold the record for being the longest-serving female officer in the history of the Houston Police Department.

Barnes, who dedicated nearly 44 years of her life to serving the city before retiring in 2023, passed away at the age of 71.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. at Fallbrook Church, located at 12512 Walters Road. Affectionately known as “CJ,” she devoted her life to protecting and serving the residents of Houston, as stated by the Houston Police Department.

The department also expressed their condolences, saying, “Our thoughts are with Officer Barnes’ family and loved ones. May she rest in peace.”
