U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Providence has apprehended a Guatemalan national who has a lengthy record of criminal charges and illegal entries into the United States.
On January 27th, ICE officers successfully apprehended Edilio Agustin-Orellana, who had been wanted in Massachusetts on several serious felony charges. These charges included assault with a dangerous weapon, kidnapping, and armed home invasion.
“Edilio Agustin-Orellana stands accused of some extremely egregious felonies and represents a significant threat to the residents of New England,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde. “We simply cannot tolerate such threats to our residents. ICE Boston remains dedicated to prioritizing the safety of our public by arresting and removing illegal alien offenders from the streets of our communities.”
Agustin-Orellana has a long history of illegal entries and deportations that date back to 2002. He has been deported from the U.S. multiple times, but has managed to re-enter the country illegally every time. His criminal record includes convictions for eluding police, resisting arrest, and driving with a suspended license.
In 2024, Agustin-Orellana faced legal trouble when he was arrested in Brockton, Massachusetts, on charges of armed home invasion and other serious crimes. Shockingly, despite an ICE detainer, the Brockton District Court decided to release him.
ICE officers successfully tracked down and apprehended Agustin-Orellana in Providence, where he had been evading capture. Currently, he is being held in ICE custody until further legal actions can be taken.
