Officers from the Gluckstadt Police Department detained a guy with nearly half a pound of fentanyl pills following a traffic check Friday.

Officers started a traffic check on a northbound car on Interstate 55 near Exit 112 (Gluckstadt Road).

According to Gluckstadt Police Department, officers stopped the suspect, Frederick Douglas Porter, and instantly smelled marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

A check of the vehicle turned up fentanyl pills weighing a little under half a pound, as well as a small amount of marijuana and a Glock 9mm handgun.

Police arrested Porter and charged him with the following crimes:

  • Trafficking of a Controlled Substance (Suspected Fentanyl) While in Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Careless Driving
  • Failure to Wear a Seatbelt

Porter was processed at the Gluckstadt Police Department and transferred to the Madison County Detention Facility, where he will appear in Gluckstadt Municipal Court for the first time.

According to Gluckstadt PD, the department “remains committed to removing dangerous drugs such as fentanyl from our streets.” Fentanyl has had a catastrophic impact on communities around the country, and every effort to stop its distribution is a step toward safeguarding public safety.”
