Former South Carolina Deputy Detained After Allegedly Pointing Gun And Threatening Victim

A former South Carolina deputy has been charged after allegedly pointing a gun at and threatening someone while on duty.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the crime committed on October 8, 2024, is being attributed to 27-year-old Deputy Donavon Quentin Sanders. He was charged several months later, on January 3, 2025.

Sanders was working for the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the incident.

According to the arrest warrant, he allegedly pointed a gun that he personally owned at an individual and made verbal threats. The warrant stated that his actions were a violation of his obligation to act in good faith and be accountable.

Sanders faced serious legal charges, including misconduct in office and first-degree assault and battery.

The Public Integrity Unit, a joint effort between the 14th and 1st Circuit Solicitor’s Offices, was responsible for prosecuting his case.

Hampton County sits on the border between South Carolina and Georgia, a stone’s throw away from Interstate 95.
