A Florida man, Richard Eugene Findley, 63, has been sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in federal prison for theft of government money and aggravated identity theft. This news was announced by the Office of the Inspector General. U.S. District Judge John Antoon II delivered the sentence on February 18, 2025. In addition to his prison time, Findley is also required to make restitution to the Social Security Administration, the Department of Agriculture, and the victim of the identity theft. Findley had previously pleaded guilty to these charges on April 30, 2024.
Court documents reveal that Findley obtained the identification card, Social Security card, and birth certificate of an individual known as E.G. during the 1990s. Without E.G.’s consent, Findley illegitimately utilized this stolen identity to obtain several government benefits, such as a Florida driver’s license, Social Security benefits, and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
