The Mississippi and Ohio Rivers are expected to experience rising water levels over the next 1 to 2 weeks due to a combination of snowmelt and rainfall runoff. The National Weather Service has stated that there is now a higher level of confidence in the prediction of minor to moderate flooding in these river systems and their surrounding feeder rivers.
With the river levels on the rise, large areas are now under numerous Flood Warnings. These warnings are not only limited to the main rivers but also include the smaller rivers that flow into them. For instance, the National Weather Service office in Memphis, Tennessee has issued a Flood Warning for the Right Hand Chute Little River at Rivervale.
Flood Warnings have been issued for several states in the southern and central regions of the United States. These states include Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri.
“Be cautious and avoid driving through flooded roads. The National Weather Service emphasizes the importance of not underestimating the danger of flooded areas, stating that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. It is crucial for motorists to heed the advice and refrain from attempting to drive around barricades or through flooded areas.”
Flooding is anticipated to persist throughout the week, with certain crests not expected until Wednesday or Thursday.
