Firefighters Battle House Blaze in Ottumwa
OTTMUWA, Iowa — Fire crews in Ottumwa responded to a structure fire on Wednesday evening, which completely engulfed a home in flames.
The fire broke out around 8:08 p.m. in the 700 block of South Moore Street. When firefighters arrived, the house was already fully involved, with flames visible through the roof.
Due to the severity of the blaze, additional firefighters were called to the scene to help control the situation. Windy conditions made it more challenging for crews to extinguish the fire, but an aggressive firefighting strategy was employed.
The firefight lasted about three hours before the flames were brought under control. Fortunately, no one was home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist the homeowners, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
