The joyous celebration of love took a dark turn in Elizabeth, as a shocking tragedy unfolded. On January 1st, devastating news broke that Naket “Naky” Trinidad had been killed, merely a day after her boyfriend, Jose Melo, had proposed to her at a local nightclub.
At the time this article was written, officials had not yet issued a statement. However, court records indicate that Melo, also known as DJ Melo, has been charged with murder in Elizabeth. The incident date is recorded as December 30, 2024. Back in 2009, Melo faced charges of kidnapping, simple assault, and aggravated sexual assault-robbery/kidnap/homicide/etc.
Trinidad enthusiastically accepted Melo’s proposal at Bamboleo Night Club on December 29th, as seen in a heartwarming video shared on Facebook. “I love you baby,” Melo captioned the clip.
The post was flooded with messages of congratulations and excitement from friends and loved ones, celebrating the couple’s future together. However, within 24 hours, those messages of joy quickly turned into condolences as news of Trinidad’s death started to spread.
One person expressed their strong disapproval, saying, “I am appalled by the actions of this individual 😡. May Flaka Naky Bella rest in eternal peace 💐.”
“Extremely shocked and confused,” another added. “No idea what happened between that night and the next morning. No reason to take anyone’s life. Sad that a lot of people lives are ruined especially their kids. RIP flaca”
According to insider information, authorities responded to a residence on Florida Street at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, December 30th. Shortly after their arrival, it was determined that the location was now classified as a crime scene.
Trinidad’s family has identified her as the victim of the fatal attack on Monday, December 30, in a GoFundMe campaign.
“Naky was senselessly taken from us in an act of evil,” reads a GoFundMe campaign launched by Trinidad’s aunt, Yolanda. “This horrible act by someone she trusted left her two children without either parent and with very little options for their future.”
The family is currently dealing with a set of challenges following the passing of Trinidad. As she had no other family members in New Jersey, she leaves behind her two young daughters, according to the campaign. While her relatives in Florida are working on handling her affairs, her aunt in New Jersey is taking care of the funeral arrangements.
