Federal inmate in West Virginia receives further prison sentence after shank discovered

An inmate at a federal correctional facility in West Virginia has been given additional prison time after being discovered in possession of a weapon, according to officials.

Demoreal Killebrew, a 26-year-old individual, has been handed down a sentence of one year and three months in prison, along with three years of supervised release. This verdict comes as a consequence of his possession of a weapon while being an inmate at a federal prison. The news release, issued by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia, provides further details on the case.

Staff members at FCI McDowell made a startling discovery when they found a handcrafted shank concealed in the suspect’s left shoe. The shank, measuring approximately 5.5 inches long, was made from a metal rod. It had a sharpened point on one end and a plastic cap serving as a handle on the other.

According to the news release, Killebrew confessed to having the shank and acknowledged its intended use as a weapon.

According to prosecutors, Killebrew’s current incarceration will be followed by the new sentence.
