The search for a suspect is still ongoing following the discovery of a man and woman who were fatally shot inside a home near the campus of Temple University, two weeks ago in Philadelphia.
On Thursday, December 19, the Marshall family received unwelcome news.
“I don’t know how many times I called that day,” said her brother Walter.
On that day, Walter’s heart was filled with a deep sense of unease. He couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was terribly amiss.
“She’s not gonna leave her son just hanging at school, so that’s how I knew something ain’t right,” Walter said.
Jocelyn, a dedicated and committed employee, had been with Tastykake for a long time. She was known for her impeccable attendance record, never failing to show up for work and always informing the company if she couldn’t make it.
“Once HR started reaching out, it’s like something is really wrong. Thank God she had a job who cares about the employees,” said Breya Marshall, Jocelyn’s sister.
“What went through your mind when you heard from Tastykake that she hadn’t shown up for work?” asked Keeley. “Where is she? It’s not her norm, so where is she?” Breya responded.
Jocelyn was absent from work and unable to pick up her six-year-old son from school.
“For her to be totally unreachable is rare, so we knew something was wrong,” said David Cottman, Jocelyn’s uncle.
Walter, Jocelyn’s brother, went to her boyfriend’s house on Diamond Street and discovered both of them there. Disturbed by the situation, he promptly contacted the authorities.
Tragedy strikes in a North Philadelphia apartment as two individuals are discovered fatally shot.
According to Jocelyn’s family, she had no conflicts with anyone and they believed that her boyfriend, Terrell Sanders, was the intended target. However, Jocelyn happened to be present at the time as well.
“The wrong place at the wrong time,” said Breya.
“I really understand now when people say ‘I lost a part of me.’ I feel it now. I know what it feels like,” said Walter.
The family wants their pain to reach someone who may have information, as they lay their loved one to rest on Saturday.
“If you know something, say something. That’s the only way we can get better as a community anyway. When you don’t say nothing, these people still out here lurking, whoever it was, whoever did it. But you don’t say anything when you know something, it can happen again,” said Walter.
