A fatal crash occurred early Sunday morning north of Colorado Springs after a Toyota Camry collided with a semi truck. According to the Colorado State Patrol, the 34-year-old driver of the northbound Camry lost control of his vehicle, veering off the road and striking a guardrail. The car then crossed into the southbound lanes, where it collided with an oncoming semi.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash took place on I-25 near Baptist Road at approximately 12:01 a.m. and resulted in the closure of all southbound lanes between Baptist and North Gate for over six hours.
The two occupants of the semi, both 29-year-old men from Philadelphia, were wearing seat belts and escaped the crash without injury. The cause of the Camry driver’s loss of control remains under investigation.
The southbound lanes of I-25 were fully reopened around 6:30 a.m.
