DPS: Texas man transporting 30 pounds of marijuana And THC from New Mexico into Texas Detained

In a recent incident in Oldham County, Texas, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) made a significant seizure of over 30 pounds of THC and marijuana. The seizure included a large number of vape cartridges, totaling in the thousands.

What we know: At approximately 2:45 p.m. on February 25th, DPS officials reported that a DPS Trooper pulled over a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica that was traveling east on I-40 near Vega, Texas. The reason for the traffic stop was a violation committed by the driver.

While making the stop, the trooper observed that the driver appeared to be nervous. Additionally, the trooper detected a prominent smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.

DPS K-9 Tex was deployed around the vehicle and detected several cardboard boxes in the rear of the vehicle.

During the search, the trooper discovered a significant amount of illegal substances concealed within the cardboard boxes. The findings included over 5,700 THC vape cartridges, 30 jars of THC butter, and 16 jars of green marijuana. In total, this amounted to more than 25 pounds of THC oil, over four pounds of THC butter, and one pound of green marijuana.

According to reports, the drugs were being transported from New Mexico to Texas.

Gatlan Mitchell, a 25-year-old driver from Brackettville, Texas, has been arrested and taken into custody at the Oldham County Jail. He is facing charges for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, which are considered felonies in the state of Texas.

What remains unknown: The driver’s destination for delivering the THC products remains unclear.
