According to a Chicago police report, a man from Indianapolis allegedly brandished a gun at a bank teller after she informed him that she could not process his money withdrawal request at a Wells Fargo branch in the West Loop. The incident took place at the bank’s 935 West Randolph location at approximately 2 p.m. on Monday.
Kadrionis Rutledge, 22, allegedly told the teller, “You can’t do this to me. I don’t accept this. This is unacceptable.”
According to the report, the individual lifted his hoodie to reveal a firearm. He made eye contact with the teller and then directed his gaze towards the weapon.
The police were contacted by the bank, and as officers arrived at the scene, they observed Rutledge stepping out of a vehicle and heading towards the branch. Noting that he matched the description of the suspect, they made the decision to approach him for a conversation, as stated in the report.
According to the report, Rutledge reportedly confessed to having a gun with him when he was inside the bank. He informed the police that the weapon was in the vehicle he had just left. However, Rutledge maintained that he never made any threats and believed that the gun was not visible while he was inside the branch. The report stated that the Chicago Police Department discovered a loaded firearm between the driver’s seat and the center console of the car.
A bank teller told officers that Rutledge became “upset because he was not allowed to withdraw funds.”
He was charged by prosecutors with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Judge Susana Ortiz ordered the detention of Rutledge until the trial.
