On Sunday, the Nebraska State Patrol discovered a Denver homicide suspect in Dawson County, along with a dead passenger.
According to the state patrol, the suspect was armed and dangerous, but the passenger died due to a medical issue.
The state patrol received notification on Sunday morning that a suspect in a Denver killing was operating a Nissan Rogue on Interstate 80 near Gothenburg.
A trooper discovered the vehicle shortly before 9:30 a.m. and initiated a pursuit. According to the state patrol, the suspect refused to stop and continued driving north into Gothenburg.
The chase lasted 25 minutes on Dawson County highways before tire spikes brought the vehicle to a halt in a ditch on Highway 30, just east of Gothenburg.
According to the state patrol, the driver and passenger refused to exit the vehicle.
After several attempts to get them out of the vehicle, troopers noticed the female passenger having what appeared to be a medical issue.
Troopers and deputies promptly approached the vehicle and removed both the driver and the passenger. The state patrol said that both were unconscious.
According to the state police, authorities administered Narcan to both the driver and the passenger before transporting them.
The female passenger was taken to Gothenburg Hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
The male driver, Augustine Vega, 36, remains at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Officers stated they discovered one handgun inside the vehicle.
The South Central Area Law Enforcement Services task group will look into the event.
The state patrol says it is working with the Denver Police Department on the ongoing homicide investigation.
