Council member from Waterloo charged with theft

Waterloo City Council Member Nia Wilder faces charges of fourth degree theft as she was charged on Friday afternoon in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

A theft took place at a Walmart located on southeast 14th street in Des Moines. As per the police report, Nia took items from the shelves within the store and used the Wal-Mart Plus Membership App to scan them while still inside. She subsequently intentionally removed $420.33 worth of store items from the app that she had previously scanned.

Nia confessed to the theft when a loss prevention employee intercepted her at the exit. Consequently, she was taken to Polk County Jail.

Wilder, a resident of Waterloo, has actively participated in various boards and committees within the city. Some of the notable organizations he has been involved with include the Waterloo Police Advisory Board, the North End Music & Arts Festival, and The Grout Museum District, among others.
