Cops Shoot And Kill Armed Man While Responding To Domestic Incident, CPD Says

According to a statement released by the Chicago Police Department, a man armed with a knife was shot and killed by officers after he advanced towards them on Friday.

Police were called to the Albany Terrace CHA complex in Little Village at approximately 2:10 a.m. in response to a domestic incident. A woman had requested assistance in removing her boyfriend from the premises as he was causing a disturbance.

The police initially received information stating that the man was unarmed. However, a dispatcher quickly provided an update, revealing that the man was actually engaged in a physical altercation with a woman and was armed with a knife.

At 2:18 a.m., an officer at the scene urgently reported “shots fired” and declared a police emergency. The officer confirmed that the man had been shot in the chest. Moments later, officers swiftly applied tourniquets to both of the man’s legs and initiated chest compressions in an effort to save his life. Tragically, despite their efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

The CPD released the following media statement just after 6 a.m.

CHICAGO – On Friday, January 3, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Chicago Police officers assigned to the 10th District responded to a call of a person with a knife inside a sixth-floor apartment in the 3000 block of W. 21st Place (10th District). As officers knocked on an apartment door, they were confronted by an adult male, who produced a knife and advanced at officers. Officers discharged their weapons, striking the offender multiple times. Officers immediately rendered aid to the offender, who was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital and later pronounced. Two officers were transported to a nearby hospital for observation. The Investigative Response Team is currently on the scene investigating.

Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department.
