The body of a North Bend man who has been missing since December 15 was discovered Sunday morning, officials said.
Joseph Neill vanished after attempting to photograph the king tides that rushed along the Oregon coast that weekend. In the days and weeks following his disappearance, North Bend police, the Coos County Sheriff’s Office, the United States Coast Guard, and a large number of volunteers looked for him. Near Jordan Point, across the bay from North Bend, they discovered his automobile.
Around 9 a.m. Sunday, North Coos Dispatch received a call from an oyster farm reporting the possibility of a deceased person in Haynes Inlet, which is located near North Bend and east of Highway 101. Officials discovered the body on the southern beach of the inlet and concluded it belonged to Neill, according to a news release.
