State Police in Upstate New York have been diligently searching for two missing women who disappeared several days ago. Tragically, authorities have now discovered their remains on the women’s property, which was suspiciously set ablaze.

On December 12, 2024, around 8:30 p.m., the New York State Police (NYSP) received a report about two females who were reported missing. This information was shared through a press release issued by the NYSP.
On December 15, 2024, the NYSP received information about a fire at 2 Birch Street in Plattsburgh, the residence of the two missing women, during the active investigation. The State Police members were promptly notified about the incident, which occurred approximately 160 miles north of Albany.
On December 16, 2024, the New York State Police actively conducted searches in the surrounding areas, successfully locating human remains. According to the State Police, they are currently executing multiple search warrants and diligently processing the scenes to gather crucial evidence.
Who Were the Women?
According to officials, the New York State Police are currently investigating missing person reports for Miranda Wade and Karen Besaw. However, the victims have not been officially identified yet.
Are There Any Suspects?
NBC5 reported that Joe Hewitt, who is said to be the boyfriend of one of the women at the home, was arrested on Sunday for tampering with evidence. State Police have not confirmed or denied whether this charge is related to the disappearance of the two women.
According to the news station, Joe Hewitt, residing at 2 Birch Street in Plattsburgh, is registered as a sex offender on the National Sex Offender Registry.
