A jury in Tarrant County, Texas, has found 32-year-old Shanay Franklin guilty of murder. The verdict was delivered on Monday, and Franklin has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Death of Journee Clark
The backstory: Court documents reveal that on February 14, 2021, Franklin was entrusted with the care of 14-month-old Journee Clark. The incident took place in the 3900 block of Goden Horn Ln.
Clark was rushed to the hospital, where medical professionals determined that she had passed away.
Clark’s autopsy revealed blunt force trauma to the head in the form of several hemorrhages.
The child passed away shortly after 4 p.m. on Valentine’s Day.
Tarrant County officials have accused Franklin of repeatedly violating her bond by being in the presence of children and using illegal substances.
Since April 8, 2024, she has been held in the Tarrant County Jail.
