Avalanche Risk Elevated in Colorado After Recent Snowfall, Warns CAIC

Avalanche Danger Considerable Across Colorado, Special Advisory Issued

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) has issued a Special Avalanche Advisory for much of the state this weekend, warning that the avalanche danger is “considerable.”

The heightened risk comes after a skier triggered a significant avalanche near Beaver Creek. According to CAIC officials, the avalanche was set off from approximately 200 feet away and “broke to the ground,” also causing a secondary avalanche on an adjacent slope.

To illustrate the severity of the incident, CAIC has released before-and-after photos of the affected area.

Backcountry enthusiasts are urged to exercise extreme caution and check current avalanche conditions before venturing out.
