Last Thursday, what looked to be a hit-and-run developed into a violent road rage episode resulting in shooting. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) stated that an initial collision on Loop 202 near Scottsdale Road quickly escalated as the victim’s pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle led to State Route 87, near McDowell Road, where the suspects are accused of shooting at the pursuing vehicle.
There were no reported injuries from the gunshot event. According to the DPS, after the brief but deadly altercation, the suspects fled out of their vehicle “a mile south of Shea Boulevard on State Route 87” and ran recklessly into the desert. The DPS forced the closure of the roadway and launched an immediate manhunt to find the suspects, ultimately apprehending one person.
According to an update from AZFamily, they closed the northbound lanes of State Route 87 from Gilbert Road to Shea Boulevard near Fountain Hills and reopened them around 5 p.m. that same day. In this tense setting, authorities apprehended one suspect, while one to two others remain at large, their descriptions still awaiting public release. DPS is continuing its investigation and search for the remaining culprits.
Local authorities have reaffirmed their intention to bring everybody involved to justice, with a spokeswoman confirming, “The suspect vehicle took off, eventually stopping a mile south of Shea Boulevard on State Route 87, where the occupants fled on foot into the desert,” according to FOX 10 Phoenix. As the situation develops, updates will be provided, and the public is requested to be vigilant and offer any information that could aid in the arrest and conviction of those currently at large.
