Alert Bank Employees Help Capture Identity Thief In Florida Who Stole $150,000 From Georgia Resident

A bank employee’s quick thinking led to the arrest of a Florida man who allegedly stole over $150,000 from a customer’s account. Thanks to the assistance of Collier County Sheriff’s deputies, the suspect is now behind bars.

Eugene Kleyman, a 39-year-old resident of Cape Coral, was apprehended on Tuesday at a Golden Gate branch of Fifth Third Bank. He has been accused of committing grand theft exceeding $100,000 as well as identity theft.

“This is a terrific example of how our business community partners with us to keep Collier County safe,” said Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk. “Identity theft and bank fraud are serious crimes that wreak havoc on people’s lives and finances.’’

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) reported that Kleyman repeatedly visited the bank, pretending to be an account holder residing in Georgia. He utilized a counterfeit driver’s license, featuring his own picture along with the victim’s personal details, in order to carry out deceitful transactions amounting to more than $150,000.

During one of Kleyman’s visits to the bank, the employees became suspicious and took action by contacting the actual account holder. They wanted to verify the situation and ensure that it wasn’t a case of identity theft. The real account holder confirmed that their identity had indeed been stolen, validating the bank employees’ suspicions.

On Tuesday, Kleyman reached out to the bank once again in order to withdraw additional funds. The bank employees promptly scheduled an appointment with him and immediately notified the CCSO. As soon as Kleyman arrived at the bank, the deputies were fully prepared and quickly apprehended him.

While in custody, Kleyman made a request for a cup of water. Upon inspection, deputies discovered a counterfeit Georgia driver’s license and the victim’s credit card cleverly concealed within the cup. Both of these crucial pieces of evidence were promptly collected for further investigation.

Kleyman is currently being held in the Collier County jail.
