Alabama’s DOJ condemns an undocumented woman to five years in prison for voter and passport fraud

An undocumented woman residing in Alabama has received a five-year prison sentence for committing voter fraud and passport fraud, as announced by the North District of Alabama on Wednesday.

Angelica Maria Francisco, a 42-year-old woman from Russellville, AL, has been convicted on multiple charges. These include two counts of falsely claiming citizenship in relation to voting, one count of providing false statements in a United States passport application, five counts of using a United States passport obtained through false statements, and one count of aggravated identity theft.

In 2011, Francisco started to assume the identity of a U.S. Citizen, as stated in the plea agreement. During that year, she acquired a U.S. passport using the same identity.

Francisco was found to have utilized a fraudulent identity during her travels to and from her native Guatemala in the years 2012, 2015, and 2018. Furthermore, she had also employed this false identity to renew her passport in 2022, enabling her to return to Guatemala.

Furthermore, in addition to her numerous fraudulent activities, Francisco went as far as illegally registering to vote in Alabama using her false identity. Shockingly, she also cast her vote in both the primary and general elections of 2016 and 2020. These actions highlight the extent of her deceit and disregard for the law.

“This sentence sends a clear message that any attempts by non-U.S. citizens to vote in the Northern District of Alabama are unacceptable and will result in serious consequences,” said U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona of the Northern District of Alabama.

The Department of Social Services conducted an investigation into the case, with the support of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
