On New Year’s Day 2025, an Alabama woman garnered attention when she left her husband at the hospital and drove away, causing confusion, speculation, and accusations. Genesis Tanksley, the woman in question, is currently held in county jail, facing allegations of fatally shooting her husband, Lazarus Tanksley, during a reported argument.
Genesis firmly denies the accusations against her.
During a private conversation with WKRG from her jail cell, Genesis shared the sequence of events leading to her husband’s untimely demise. As per her account, they had recently arrived at Lazarus’s residence when an unfamiliar man approached them. Genesis provided a description of the individual, stating that he was approximately 5-foot-8 with a darker complexion.
Chaos ensued moments later when the man attempted to enter the backseat of Genesis’s car, requesting a ride.
“Lazarus came to the right side of the door, and he opened it,” Genesis said. “Then pow. The gun went off.”
The memory of her husband’s tragic death haunted her, as she vividly remembered the heartbreaking sight of him being overcome by a single gunshot wound to his chest.
“He was already shaking, and like you could see his soul leaving his body,” she said, visibly emotional.
Witnesses assisted in loading Lazarus into the back of her car so that she could quickly drive him to the hospital. However, what happened next left many people perplexed: Genesis departed the hospital without staying.
Her response to why she didn’t stay with her husband was chillingly straightforward.
“Because Lazarus was dead,” Genesis said.
Genesis, instead of idling away at the hospital, decided to head back to the scene of the incident to collect crucial evidence. Only after this, she made her way to her father’s house to disclose the unfortunate turn of events.
Her father, Andre Carstarphen, was heartbroken when he received the news.
“When she said what she said, I immediately shut it down,” Carstarphen admitted. “I can’t. I don’t want to hear it. I can’t take this.”
As soon as deputies arrived at his door, he foresaw her destiny.
“You’re going to be locked up tonight, and you are going to be accused of murder,” Carstarphen told her.
Genesis firmly asserts her innocence and firmly believes that the true culprit is the mysterious man who approached them.
When questioned about her certainty regarding the sequence of events, she responded with unwavering confidence:
“Oh yeah, that’s exactly what happened.”
Genesis is currently in custody, awaiting her upcoming court appearance on January 16th. There are still many unanswered questions surrounding her story, which depicts a heartbreaking tale of grief, intrigue, and a devastating conclusion to a once-promising love story.
