Alabama high school football coach, Robert Sloan Carter, has been apprehended in Okaloosa County, Florida, on various serious charges. Among these charges is the accusation of soliciting a sexual act from a student, a felony offense.
Authorities have reported that the police arrested 55-year-old Carter, a well-known figure in Alabama high school athletics and former head football coach at Clarke County High School. The arrest took place in Niceville late Friday evening on 11 warrants. The charges against Carter include three counts of soliciting a sexual act with a student, four counts of engaging in a sexual act as a school employee, and four counts of distributing obscene material to a minor on school grounds.
Local officials have not yet provided specific details regarding the events leading up to his arrest. However, sources have suggested that investigators had been working on building a case against him for quite some time. The investigation initially started in Grove Hill, Alabama.
Clarke County High School, where Carter had worked, released a statement to highlight its dedication to ensuring student safety. School administrators reassured parents that they were taking steps to strengthen campus security and fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities.
“The district has stated that the safety and well-being of our students are their top priority. They are actively collaborating with authorities to ensure a comprehensive and transparent investigation.”
Carter is currently being held without bond at the Okaloosa County Jail. He is expected to face extradition to Clarke County. The legal proceedings will determine if bond will be granted and what penalties he may face if he is convicted.
Carter served as a coach at Sylacauga High School from 2021 to 2022, with previous coaching experiences at Beauregard High School and Clarke County High School.
