A FedEx contract delivery driver from Alabama has been arrested in Florida for allegedly dumping numerous packages in the woods or on the roadside instead of delivering them.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Latavion Lewis, 28, has been charged with organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and illegal dumping.
Authorities were alerted to the discarded packages, which sparked the investigation on Saturday.
Homes County is located near the border with Alabama.
FedEx was contacted by investigators to help identify the driver who was supposed to deliver the missing packages. It was determined that Lewis, a contracted worker from Alabama, was the person responsible for the delivery.
Lewis has listed addresses in Montgomery and Houston counties.
Lewis was contacted by deputies, who arranged for a meeting at the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
In the interview, Lewis confessed to deputies that he decided to dispose of the undelivered packages at multiple locations instead of bringing them back to the FedEx warehouse because it was late at night.
Authorities have successfully recovered a total of 44 packages. These packages were then promptly sent to the Bonifay Post Office, where they were diligently distributed to their respective recipients.
Lewis is currently being held in the Holmes County Jail as of Monday.
