Alabama attorney general joins others in urging Costco to drop its DEI policies

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall is among a group of 19 attorneys general from across the country urging Costco to reconsider its policies on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

According to CBS News, attorneys general have written a letter to Costco CEO Ron Vachris, expressing their concerns about the company’s adherence to DEI policies that have been deemed illegal by courts and businesses. The attorneys general are urging Costco to consider the legal risks associated with its actions.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird, along with 17 other Republican officials, have issued a directive to Costco, urging the company to either eliminate its DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) policies or provide a detailed explanation for their retention within a 30-day period.

CBS News reached out to Costco for comment, but they did not respond promptly.

Costco shareholders have received a letter following their rejection of a proposal to assess the risks associated with the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices. The National Center for Public Policy Research, the shareholder behind the proposal, contends that DEI language is deceptive, masking a radical Marxist agenda.

In the initial findings disclosed during Costco’s annual meeting on Thursday, Costco executives revealed that over 98% of shares voted in opposition to the proposal.

Costco has taken a different approach compared to other major consumer companies.
