A severe storm system is expected to cause a Wednesday washout in Massachusetts, with heavy rain, isolated flooding, and damaging gusts.
Numerous risks and alerts are associated with this extremely abnormal storm system.
The Storm Prediction Center has classified areas south of the Mass Pike as “marginal” risk for severe thunderstorms.

The Weather Prediction Center has classified most of New England as having a “slight risk” of extreme rainfall. We anticipate 2-3″ of rain for the majority of the area.
High wind warning
Lastly, a high-wind warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for all of eastern Massachusetts. Wednesday afternoons and evenings.
The greatest winds will be along the immediate shoreline, including Southeastern Massachusetts. Southerly winds will reach 45–60 mph in this area late Wednesday.
Further inland, between 128 and 495, and westward across Worcester County, we anticipate wind gusts of 35 to 50 mph on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Storm timeline for Boston
On Tuesday night, intermittent showers began to fall. We don’t expect torrential rains.
From Wednesday morning to afternoon, we’ll experience persistent rain with some strong downpours.
There may be a small respite later Wednesday afternoon and evening before the heaviest line of rain moves in between 6 p.m. and midnight. This is when we are most vulnerable to flooding and wind damage.
Storm brings warmer weather
Temperatures will be very mild on Wednesday. Southern New England will see highs in the low to mid 60s, reaching several all-time records.
Thursday will be much quieter, and it appears that we will stay dry (and coolish) until the weekend.
Our next chance of rain showers is either late Sunday or early next week.
