A fugitive is one among four people arrested in a Bibb County drug and firearms raid

A fugitive wanted in Alabama and three others were apprehended Thursday afternoon during a raid on a Bibb County home that turned up drugs, illegal firearms, and a Glock Sear switch—an unlawful gadget that turns handguns into machine guns.

The Suspects:

  • Hunter Wayne Smith, 24, a convicted criminal and wanted fugitive from Alabama, was discovered with a firearm during the search and is charged with two counts of felony possession of a firearm.
  • Christian Lewis Winters, 17, is accused of possessing an illegal Glock Sear switch and faces accusations of possession of a machine gun during a crime, possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 18, and theft by receiving stolen property.
  • Devon Andrew Winters, 17, is charged with possessing a machine gun during the commission of a felony.
  • The charges against Brittany Leann Sheffield, 35, include possession of Schedule II narcotics and two counts of possessing a handgun during a felony.

What Happened: Based on a tip about the delivery of a Glock Sear switch, investigators surveilled a home in the 3700 block of Greenway Place. A search warrant was issued after witnesses saw the package being brought inside. On November 1, 2024, a vehicle break-in in Bibb County resulted in the recovery of five weapons and 20 grams of methamphetamine, which authorities recovered without incident.

The aftermath: The Bibb County Law Enforcement Center is holding all four suspects without bond.
