Married Couple Detained After January Armed Bank Robbery In KCK

A married couple suspected of participating in a bank robbery that took place in late January has been apprehended in Kansas City, Kansas.

Willie Sampson, aged 50, and his wife, Kimberly Thomas-Sampson, also aged 50, were apprehended on Monday at different locations, according to the authorities.

Willie was apprehended after a tense two-hour confrontation at his residence on N. 37th Street and Wood Avenue. Following his decision to barricade himself inside the house, he eventually emerged and was taken into custody without any further issues.

Willie’s wife Kimberly was arrested earlier in the day at her workplace, according to KCKPD. The arrest was carried out without any complications.

The couple faced charges for multiple offenses, including aggravated robbery, aggravated non-residential burglary, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, and theft.

On January 31, a bank robbery took place at the U.S. Bank located at 10995 Parallel Parkway near the Legends. The incident unfolded when the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department received a report of an armed individual wearing a bulletproof vest at an elementary school within the Kansas City, Kansas School District.

Law enforcement officials suspect that the report of an armed individual entering the school was a deliberate false report intended to divert police resources away from the bank.

Willie and Kimberly are currently in custody at the Wyandotte County Jail, with each of them being held on bonds amounting to $250,000.

The KCKPD Robbery Unit is currently investigating the incident.
