A woman from New Hampshire and a man from Massachusetts were apprehended after they were observed exceeding the speed limit at over 100 mph on Interstate 93 in New Hampshire. The incident took place during a traffic enforcement operation on Thursday, according to authorities.
Nakaya I. Mitchell, a 26-year-old resident of Lebanon, is currently facing charges for operating a vehicle after his license was suspended due to ALS. Additionally, Mitchell is also accused of speeding, going more than 25 mph over the designated 65 mph limit. On the other hand, James J. McCusker, a 40-year-old individual from Boston, is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, as reported by the New Hampshire State Police.
According to state police, Mitchell and McCusker were observed driving recklessly and exceeding speeds of 100 mph on the northbound side of the highway in Salem.
On that day, officials reported that New Hampshire State Police aircraft detected a total of 46 traffic violations, leading to two arrests. Among these violations were 15 instances of drivers traveling at a speed of 90 mph or higher.
The authorities have issued a reminder to the public regarding the consequences of reckless driving in New Hampshire. It is important to note that the minimum penalties for this offense include a fine of $620, along with an additional mandatory penalty assessment. Furthermore, individuals found guilty of reckless driving will also face a 60-day suspension of their driver’s license. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that the standard fine for exceeding the speed limit and traveling at speeds of 86 mph or faster is set at $434.
“Troopers will continue to work with the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety to conduct focused traffic enforcement to reduce speeds, detect impaired driving, prevent serious crashes, and ensure the safety of all residents and visitors of the Granite State,” state police said in a statement.
