A Virginia woman was taken into custody by Raleigh police on Thursday for her alleged involvement in the theft of over 40 driver’s licenses and passports, according to warrants.
Kimberly Michele Kretzer Mason, a 52-year-old resident of Portsmouth, Va., has been charged with possessing 41 driver’s licenses from different states and three U.S. passport cards that belonged to other individuals. The warrants filed by the Raleigh Police Department allege that Mason had obtained these documents for her personal use.
Mason faces serious charges as the warrants reveal that he is accused of committing 44 counts of identity theft, which is considered a felony offense.
Court documents reveal that Mason is also facing charges in Virginia, including three counts of using ID with the intent to defraud, two counts of obtaining money through false pretenses, and one count of uttering writing.
According to court records, Mason has been granted a secured bond of $1 million. Her first appearance in Wake County court is scheduled for Friday.
A warrant reveals that Raleigh police arrested Toby Lee Porter, a 54-year-old resident of Portsmouth, on Thursday. Porter stands accused of possessing two driver’s licenses belonging to other individuals, which he allegedly used for personal purposes and to make motel reservations. Additionally, he is charged with possession of counterfeit identification cards and bank cards.
Porter faces charges of identity theft and aiding and abetting forgery, both of which are felony offenses. The warrant indicates that he is accused of two counts of identity theft and three counts of aiding and abetting forgery.
Porter has been granted a $150,000 secured bond, as stated in court records. His initial appearance in Wake County court is set for Friday.
The warrants do not specify whether the arrests of Mason and Porter are linked. CBS 17 has contacted Raleigh police for further details.
