Several men and a juvenile are facing charges following an armed robbery of a DoorDash driver in Kansas City on Wednesday night, according to authorities.
According to court records in Jackson County, a DoorDash driver was robbed by three men and a juvenile while he was in the process of delivering a pizza.
According to a document outlining probable cause, the DoorDasher was robbed by four individuals. The suspects, identified as 21-year-old Michael Taylor from Blue Springs, Missouri; 23-year-old Jaheim Black from Kansas City, Kansas; 22-year-old Derrell Banks from Kansas City, Missouri; and a juvenile, allegedly pointed two handguns at the victim during the robbery.
According to a probable cause document, after the victim was taken down to the ground, two suspects proceeded to search his pockets and stole his wallet, key fobs, and cell phone. The two suspects then quickly made their escape and got into the victim’s vehicle, along with the other two suspects. All four individuals fled the area together.
The police eventually arrived at the scene and initiated a search for the DoorDash driver’s 2019 Ford Escape. They successfully located the vehicle just before midnight on Wednesday night and proceeded to stop it by activating their emergency lights.
According to a probable cause document, the Ford vehicle started to accelerate and did not comply with the instructions to stop given by the officers.
The chase came to an end at the intersection of I-70 Highway and I-35 Highway when the car crashed. Subsequently, all four individuals inside the vehicle exited and attempted to flee, but were apprehended by law enforcement. During the pursuit, officers discovered two handguns discarded by the suspects.
The DoorDasher positively identified Black and Taylor as the individuals who had pointed a gun at him during the robbery after they were apprehended.
The three individuals, Banks, Black, and Taylor, are facing a total of six serious charges. These charges include being involved in the first-degree robbery as an accessory, being an accessory to vehicle hijacking, aiding in fleeing a stop, resisting arrest, and two counts of armed criminal action. Currently, Banks, Black, and Taylor are being held at the Jackson County Detention Center on a bond of $100,000.
The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas has also placed Black under additional hold for a charge.
The identity of the person behind the wheel remains uncertain as the vehicle fled from law enforcement and ultimately collided on the highway.
