A grand jury indictment has been issued for a Warsaw man following a traffic stop near Sedalia. The authorities discovered lethal quantities of fentanyl in his possession.
Douglas G. Henke, 59, of Warsaw, has been charged with trafficking drugs in Pettis County, Missouri, according to the Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The charges come after fentanyl was reportedly discovered during a routine traffic stop.
According to a probable cause statement filed by the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, a GMC pickup truck was pulled over by law enforcement officials around 11:55 p.m. on Oct. 26. The reason for the stop was the vehicle’s inappropriately tinted windows. To assist in the search for possible narcotics, a K-9 unit from the Sedalia Police Department was called to the scene.
During the investigation, it was observed that the Sedalia K-9 detected something suspicious in a backpack. Upon further inspection, law enforcement officials discovered a glass smoking pipe in the backpack, which had residue believed to be connected to methamphetamine. Additionally, when the driver, who was identified as Henke, was searched, a baggie containing a white crystal substance was found. Later analysis confirmed that the substance was fentanyl.
Law enforcement officials have reported the confiscation of 10 grams of fentanyl and 3 grams of methamphetamine. Consequently, Henke has been arrested and faced charges for drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance at a correctional facility.
A grand jury indicted Henke on Wednesday, and he is currently in custody at Pettis County. An arraignment is set for Tuesday, Feb. 11, with no additional details available at this time.
