Massachusetts Man Charged With Driving 130 Mph On His Way To New York Explains Reason To State Police

A Massachusetts man is currently facing multiple charges as authorities allege that he was driving in a reckless manner and exceeding the speed limit.

State Police reported that on Saturday at around 11:00 a.m., Troopers from Troop C – Tolland were engaged in speed enforcement on I-84 west in the Town of Union, Connecticut. During their patrol near Exit 74, a Trooper noticed a grey Tesla exceeding the posted speed limit by a significant margin.

The Trooper decided to leave his spot and approach the vehicle in order to establish contact. It took several miles for the Trooper to catch up to the speeding vehicle, which was aggressively overtaking other vehicles across all three lanes at an incredibly high speed. Once the Trooper was directly behind the vehicle, he determined its speed to be 130 mph. The Trooper initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which promptly pulled over to the right shoulder at Exit 70 in the Town of Willington.

The authorities have identified the driver involved in the incident as Zhenyang Xu, a 21-year-old resident of Boston, MA.

Xu admitted that he had been driving at such a high speed due to his urgent need to visit his sick friend in New York.

The authorities took him into custody smoothly and brought him to Troop C for the necessary procedures.

Xu faced charges of Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Improper Passing (6 Counts).

After posting a $1,000 bond, he was released and is currently awaiting a court date later this month at Rockville Superior Court.
