Suspect Responsible For The Explosion Outside Of Detroit Post Office May Be Located In Tennessee, Officials Say

The Detroit Fire Investigation Division is currently on the lookout for a suspect who is being sought after for intentionally igniting a vehicle and triggering an explosion in close proximity to a post office.

On August 15, 2024, a suspect approached a white 2018 Chevrolet Traverse parked at a post office in the 17300 block of Harper Avenue in Detroit, according to officials.

Around 1:43 p.m. on that day, the suspect hurled an object at the front passenger side window, shattering the glass, according to officials. Subsequently, he proceeded to pour an accelerant into the vehicle and ignited it, leading to an explosion that knocked him down and resulted in burns to his face.

Officials have reported that the suspect is thought to have departed from Detroit and could be making his way towards Tennessee or Texas. They describe him as a man of larger build, last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt paired with a white shirt and blue jeans.
