Inmate Who Fled New Jersey Apprehended with Assistance from the Public

The New Jersey inmate that escaped from medical transport has been caught. Police did not reveal any additional details about the arrest, but they did confirm on social media that they apprehended 25-year-old Nicholas Voutsas on Monday afternoon. Voutsas escaped from authorities while riding in a medical transfer vehicle bound for University Hospital in Newark.

New Jersey State Police are seeking public assistance in locating an escaped inmate.

Nicholas Voutsas fled from a medical transport vehicle bound for University Hospital in Newark, Essex County, on Thursday, January 30, 2025, around 9:00 a.m. As a result, the New Jersey Human Services Police Department, which conducted the first investigation, charged Nicholas Voustas with escape.

We last spotted him near University Hospital, on South Orange Avenue and Bergen Street in Newark, Essex County. He wore a two-tone black over green winter jacket, dark blue jeans, and black sneakers with Velcro fasteners.

Voutsas is a Tier 2 registered sexual offender. He is a 25-year-old Caucasian male who stands roughly 6’0″ tall and weighs about 260 pounds.
