The Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting death of a truck driver on Interstate 295 late Friday night.
According to VSP, Silvio Sobrinho, 58, of Revere, Mass., was discovered dead with an apparent gunshot wound after the tractor-trailer he was driving collided with another at the 25-mile marker on I-295.
A witness in a tractor-trailer driving north noticed the event, which knocked Sobrinho’s truck off the road, and discovered Sobrinho slumped over the steering wheel.
A responding trooper performed CPR, but the motorist was subsequently pronounced dead by emergency medical professionals.
The victim’s tractor unit had several bullet holes on the passenger side.
Sobrinho described the truck that struck his vehicle as a white tractor-trailer with green markings.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” said Capt. Brien Frey, Richmond BCI captain. “We urge anyone with information or dashcam footage related to this incident to come forward and assist law enforcement.”
