The Boston 25 Weather team is closely monitoring a winter storm that has the potential to cause significant disruptions in Massachusetts later this week. This storm system may bring a mix of snow, ice, and rain to the area.
Meteorologist Shiri Spear has issued a Weather Alert for Thursday due to an anticipated storm following the recent snowfall of 1-3 inches in the Bay State.
“A wintry mix of snow and ice is currently expected to develop in the morning and continue through midday,” Spear wrote in her latest weather blog .
In her latest forecast , Spear said, “Snow and ice arrive at some point during the morning commute with a wintry mix and some slick travel through midday.”
According to Spear, the snow and ice will transition to rain in the afternoon, although this change may not occur in all areas.
“It only takes a coating of ice to really mess things up. As long as we get into that milder air, we’ll be in good shape with showers in the afternoon. If this front is a little bit off and we never get that warm air moving into areas north and west of Boston, it could be slick there for travel all day.”
The Boston 25 Weather team has not yet released a projected snow map for the storm.
There is also a possibility of a “fast” weekend storm on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
“I’m not thinking a lot of precipitation over the weekend, but we might need to add another weather alert,” Spear said.
