U.S. Customs and Border Protection remains busy in its efforts to prevent drugs from entering the country, even as the federal government increases deportations. This was evident at the port of entry in San Luis, where two notable incidents occurred this week.
The initial incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to authorities, a Chevy sedan driven by a 23-year-old American man was spotted attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico. As a result, the vehicle was flagged for additional examination.
Officers used advanced technologies to screen the car and discovered anything unusual on the floor. A CBP K-9 found drugs.
They checked the car and discovered 12 packages underneath the carpet. They had 117 pounds of methamphetamine.
The second drug detection occurred on Thursday, about 11:30 p.m., when a 42-year-old Mexican male driving a Ford vehicle from Mexico was instructed to pull over for additional testing.
Officers employed equipment to detect an anomaly in the speaker box in the back of the truck.
CBP reported that they searched the truck and discovered 69 pounds of cocaine in 25 packages, with a combined street value of about $805,359 for both seizures.
