Guatemalan Man Faces Imprisonment For Reentering US After Being Deported Four Times

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida has recently revealed that Edgar Rolando Suruy-Xiquin, also known as Marvin Martinez-Vazquez, a 30-year-old Guatemalan citizen, has been indicted for the crime of illegal reentry by a deported alien. If found guilty, Suruy-Xiquin could face a maximum sentence of two years in federal prison. The charges against him were presented on January 28, 2025, and his trial is scheduled for March 3, 2025.

The indictment reveals that Suruy-Xiquin had been deported from the United States four times before. After his last removal, he did not obtain the necessary consent from the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to apply for re-entry into the country. It was on January 13, 2025, that Suruy-Xiquin was discovered to be in the United States voluntarily.

An indictment serves as an official accusation that a defendant has committed one or more federal criminal offenses. It is important to note that every defendant is considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is currently conducting an investigation into this case. The responsible party for the prosecution is Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey.
