West Virginia’s governor announced on Monday that over 50 individuals suspected of illegal immigration are currently being held in the state’s jail system.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has stated that he has instructed state agencies to actively collaborate with the federal government in order to support immigration enforcement efforts.
According to Morrisey, as of Monday afternoon, state facilities were detaining 53 suspected illegal immigrants. These detentions were carried out under the direction of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the FBI.
“We are fully committed to safeguarding our citizens and collaborating closely with the Trump Administration to combat illegal immigration,” Morrisey stated in a written declaration.
The authorities will hold the detainees until they determine their immigration status.
