Travis Renner, a father from Gilbert, Arizona, has had his drug charges suspended pending his participation in a two-year drug rehabilitation program. Renner was arrested in January after Gilbert Police discovered psychedelic mushrooms in his bedroom. The court has decided to delay any further legal action as he begins the mandatory counseling and rehab program, offering him a chance at rehabilitation.
The legal issues Renner’s two sons are facing, however, make his personal struggles worse. His son, Talan Renner, is charged with the murder of Preston Lord, a crime that occurred during a Halloween party in 2023.
Talan, who is facing trial in July 2025, was granted bond with a $500,000 reduction. Meanwhile, his 19-year-old son, Kyler Renner, is currently serving a two-year prison sentence for his involvement in a violent assault at a Gilbert parking garage in December 2022.
Kyler also faced drug charges related to fentanyl, with police reports revealing he had been taking up to 30 fentanyl pills daily.
Kyler’s criminal history includes participation in a violent attack by a group of teens, known as the “Gilbert Goons,” linked to several violent incidents in the area. The group gained additional notoriety after the murder of Preston Lord, with police connecting Kyler to the group in the aftermath of the crime.
The Renner family’s troubled situation is a reminder of the intersection of substance abuse, violent behavior, and legal challenges, with both parents and children facing significant consequences.
