A Newark man is facing charges for firearm and narcotics offenses, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Vikas Khanna on Friday.
Khalif Irving, 25, who is also known as “Kah Kah,” has been charged with various offenses, including possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. On January 24, 2025, Irving appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Hammer in Newark federal court and was subsequently ordered to be detained.
According to court documents, Irving is accused of advertising drugs for sale on social media and sharing pictures of guns. On January 23, law enforcement officers witnessed him hiding a loaded firearm in a utility box at the Janice Kromer Village apartments. Shortly after, they found the weapon, apprehended Irving, and confiscated suspected drugs from him.
If Irving is found guilty, he could face significant consequences. These may include a minimum prison sentence of five years for possessing a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking offense, as well as a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for all the charges combined. In addition to potential incarceration, Irving may also be subject to substantial fines.
The investigation was greatly aided by the efforts of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Newark Police Department, and North Bergen Police Department, as recognized by Acting U.S. Attorney Khanna.
