U.S. Representative Andy Biggs (R-AZ) is currently contemplating the idea of running for the position of Arizona’s next governor.
Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District congressman recently took to social media to announce that he has officially filed a “Statement of Interest” for the governor’s office.
“Arizona has a promising future, but it requires strong leadership to unlock its true potential,” stated Representative Biggs. Having served Arizona both at the state and federal levels, he feels privileged to bring his experience back to his native state and contribute to its remarkable capabilities. “I have a deep understanding of what Arizona needs in order to flourish,” he affirmed. With great anticipation, he expressed his eagerness to engage in meaningful conversations with his fellow Arizonans while carefully contemplating this significant decision.”
Biggs, along with other GOP lawmakers, received a subpoena from the Jan. 6 committee in May as part of the investigation into the Capitol riots. He refused the subpoena, criticizing the committee as “illegitimate” and accusing their actions of being nothing more than “pure political theater.”
In the most recent election, Biggs secured his reelection in the district that covers a significant portion of the East Valley. He emerged victorious with an impressive majority, garnering over 60% of the vote in this solid Republican stronghold.
In 2023, he aimed to become the House Speaker, challenging California congressman Kevin McCarthy. However, he fell short, receiving only nine votes on the first ballot. This was a significant difference from the 218 votes required to secure the position.
If he decides to join the race, the Republican candidate would be vying for the nomination in the upcoming 2026 GOP primary.
